Why Garage Shelving is NecessaryThere is need for
garage shelving as there are a lot of homes where without them these garages will be anything short of being a
dumping ground. The primary function of a garage is to help keep our vehicles from different negative
possibilities; from adverse weather conditions to even theft, but they also serve many homes as a dumping ground
for all kinds of objects, which is not really bad, but the problem often is these items are not properly kept.
Garage shelving is the process often used to ensure objects left in the garage are not kept just anywhere, but in a
storage item. The objects often found here are sporting gear like your lawn tennis rackets, base ball bat, helmet,
et al., and even tool boxes. These objects are then properly arranged for easy retrieval.
Carrying out this task of cleaning up your garage can be intimidating, but don't be discouraged as by the time you
are through, you will be very glad that you did it. Once this task is concluded, your garage will now be a place
you will be ever willing to show to your friends and neighbors.
To commence garage shelving you can select from available materials. Materials that are commonly used in building
cabinet are steel and aluminum. Steel is okay to be used in building the cabinet because of its durability.
However, getting a wooden garage shelve cabinet is not a bad idea at all as this is cheap, especially if this can
be built by you. Making one yourself will also benefit you as you can make shelves to meet your exact size and
specification.
Some materials that you will need to build your family size wooden garage shelve cabinet are: 3/4" plywood which
will be used to construct powerful shelves for the cheaper option and fir or pine wood to make solid boards which
are more expensive. What ever option that you choose, the boards you make should be strong and be able to bear
heavy load, this is important so they can hold additional load, which will be added in the future.
Ensure you draw up a plan for your wooden garage cabinet and every other thing that is necessary to make your
garage what it ought to be as this is wise. Your plan should include; depth of each shelve, space between each
shelve and the amount of space this shelve will take so it does not encroach into the space allocated for your
vehicle(s).
Also ensure you take precautionary measures to prevent insect attacks, if your garage shelving will involve the use
of wood.
